1. Contract preparations and contact persons
1.1. Contact Persons
The papers necessary for your employment contract will be collected and prepared by the School Office - Service Personnel (SP) and then submitted to the HR office of TU München (ZA 2) for the contract to be finalised.
For employment at the Department of Mathematics (MATH) your contacts are Mr Richard Wolf or Ms Cornelia Kolbe. For employment at the Department of Computer Science(CS) / Department of Computer Engineering(CE) your contacts are Ms Silke Itjeshorst or Ms Stephanie Stolle.
The complete set of papers and documents required for your contract to be set up must be sent from the SP to the central administration at least 6 weeks before your contract is due to start. The complete employment process, as of you receiving our employment email, typically takes six to eight weeks.
Subsequently please find all important information regarding the contract process.
1.2. Employment Procedure
- Employment request
The future employee (EM) and the respective organisational body (Chair, Service Personnel etc.) agree on the employment request to be submitted.
- Employment of scientific staff
For the employment of scientific staff the head of the chair (or other body to which the future employee will belong) sends the form for employment request (EV of the Department of Mathematics) / (EV of the Department of Computer Science(CS) / Department of Computer Engineering) to the SP, including the reasons for a limited fixed-term contract, the related qualification goals and a current and complete CV. This CV shall include the current postal address, e-mail address, nationality and the exact dates of all employments after the candidate´s Master degree. In case of scientific work contracts or stipends these data are relevant for the determination of the pay scale grade.

- Employment of non-scientific staff
For the employment of non-scientific staff the head of the chair (or other body to which the future employee will belong) sends the necessary data for employment per Email to the SP.

- Next steps
Once all the above-mentioned documents have been received, the SP contacts the future employee via email and prepares the contract together with the central administration of TUM.
! Important note: The contract needs to be signed before it starts. This is also the case when it starts on a holiday. It is not possible to start work from abroad due to the social security and tax implications.

In particular, employments at other universities, research organisations etc. are important for the calculation of your salary level within the wage system TV-L Information sheet: TV-L Salary system (English) Informationsblatt Stufenfestsetzung (German) The final determination of the salary grade and thus the amount of the salary is carried out by the TUM HR office (ZA 2) usually only when the new employment contract is handed over. We (i.e. the Service Personnel (SP)) can therefore only provide a non-binding forecast upon your request and according to the former employment contracts which you handed over to us. |

4. Führungszeugnis (Police good conduct report "für Behörden") Please apply for the German good conduct report for "Behörden" at the local council office of your German place of residence after your arrival in Germany. All certificates which are relevant for your employment e.g. certificates of your Bachelor and (if applicable) Masters qualification, other qualifications such as apprenticeships or further education courses. For scientific employees who do not yet have their Masters Certificate: Please provide a confirmation of the conclusion and passing of your masters thesis. A transcript of records is neither sufficient nor needed. All documents need to be in either German or English language. Otherwise we need an official (no selfmade translation) German or English translation in addition. In case of foreign university degrees, 1. the university has to be acknowledged (H+ rating) and the degree has to be equivalent to a German university degree. You can check this in the database anabin. If your university or degree can not be found, please contact us for further assistance and instructions. |
